Biographical Sketch

Dr. Yulei Wu is an Associate Professor affiliated with the Smart Internet Lab (School of Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering) and the Bristol Digital Futures Institute at the University of Bristol, UK. He received his Ph.D. in Computing and Mathematics and a B.Sc. (First-Class Honours) in Computer Science from the University of Bradford, UK, in 2010 and 2006, respectively. His research focuses on intelligent and AI-native networks, future networks and distributed systems, digital twins, agentic AI, and trustworthy AI.

Prior to joining the University of Bristol, Dr. Wu held positions at the University of Exeter and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). His research has been supported by major funding bodies, including the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the European Union, Innovate UK, and leading industry partners such as BT, Nokia, Samsung, and NVIDIA.

Dr. Wu has authored or edited over 10 monographs and published more than 150 peer-reviewed research papers in leading international journals, including IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering, and ACM Transactions on Internet Technology, and at major international conferences such as ACM Multimedia (MM), ICDCS, IPDPS, IEEE GLOBECOM, ICC, and WCNC. His contributions include eight ESI Highly Cited Papers (Clarivate Analytics), and he has received five Best Paper Awards at prestigious international conferences. His work has been featured in IEEE Network’s Scanning the Literature and the IEEE Xplore Innovation Spotlight. Since 2021, he has been listed among Stanford’s Top 2% Most Highly Cited Scientists.

Dr. Wu serves or has served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management (TNSM) and IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering (TNSE). He is also an Editorial Board Member of Computer Networks, Journal of Network and Computer Applications, Future Generation Computer Systems, and Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio). In addition, he has served as Guest Editor for more than 20 leading journals, including IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (JSAC) and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (TII). He has contributed to the organisation of over 30 international conferences in roles such as General Chair and Program Chair. He currently chairs an IEEE Special Interest Group on Ethical AI for Future Networks and Digital Infrastructure (since 2023) and serves as Vice Chair (Europe/Africa) of the IEEE Communications Society Cognitive Networks Technical Committee (2025–2026). Dr. Wu is a Senior Member of the IEEE and the ACM, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
